I just wanted to say a few words about Larry Walker. This is one of the greatest players of this era who is walking away from the game. After the game was over and the goodbyes were over at Busch, Walker came out to say goodbye. I wish we could have had Walker during his prime as he was a class act. The debate I have about Walker is whether he is a hof or not. I for one believe stats mean a lot and Walker does have impressive ones. I believe this guy stats may not be hof worthy but believe his is one. I know that if he does go in it will be as a Rockie but I would support this guy going in. Any thoughts?

Not one of the greatest players of this era and not a HOF. Probably Exhibit A for the Coors Field Effect. A .381 career hitter at Coors; .282 hitter everywhere else.

Very similar stats to one of my favorite all-time ballplayers, DWIGHT EVANS.

AVG

DEWEY.....272
LW..........313

RBI'S

DEWEY......1384
LW............1311

RUNS
DEWEY.....1470
LW...........1355

HOMERS

DEWEY.......385
LW.............383

HITS

DEWEY.......2446
LW............2160

Conclusion--Considering Dewey edges LW in four of these five major offensive statistical categories, has NINE gold gloves, a memorable WS catch and other playoff highlights, and is completely OFF the HOF ballot...........would regretably say that LW has no shot at the HOF.

DEWEY and LW will both go down as two of my most liked ballplayers of all-time!

Good to very good player,he was very decent before going o Coors, but didn't really have phenomenal years until he went to Colorado...7 GGs, 1997 MVP, cannon for an arm, career OBP .400 , not a HOFer though..

I will always remember Walker for breaking my heart homering with one out in the 9th inning last yr off of Foulke, in the WS and costing me a sweep of two large bets...every time I see him, remember that homerun..

Foulke grooving fastballs with a big lead, Walker goes yard to left center...for that, I will not vote him in the HOF when he's eligible (jk)

That's a pretty darn good comparison, both great fielders with great arms, Evans played much longer , the only real difference.

LW tidbit--childhood friend of former Boston Bruin great CAM NEELY.

Once in an interview, heard LW say that his childhood dream was to play in the NHL and that CAMs was to play MLB............lol.

Larry went on to say that he found baseball very boring as compared to hockey.

Not as long as one would think.......only 3 years.

Dewey with 20 years of MLB service compared to 17 for Walker.

Don't care whether he goes to the hall, he will always be one of my favorite players. He played hard and he could do it all, I was pulling hard for the Cards to go to the WS. I will miss watching Walker play, Damn he was good!

Agree Dewey's numbers are better. I am just wondering if LW being a Canadian and the best Canadian if that fact alone will get him in.

Can only help, as well as the fact he is very well liked by the media.

Still, a huge underdog on gaining entrance into the HOF in my opinion.

I love Walker as well so I am biased. I don't think he gets into the HOF right away but he may have a shot once his name gets passed on to veterans committee.

I love Larry Walker, but think that he is two or three productive seasons away from the HOF.

I do take issue with the suggestion that he's the best Canadian ever. Ferguson Jenkins, from Chatham, Ontario, had six straight twenty-win seasons and was inducted into the HOF in 1991.

Walker is definitely the best Canadian position player ever, but Jenkins' HOF status makes him the best Canadian MLB player ever.

True, I was speaking of games played , Evans with over 2600, Walker less than 2000...great call though on the comparison.:103631605

I don't care what his nationality is...if they want to make a Canadian Hall of Fame, put him in there. No way does he deserve to be in the MLB HOF. Inflated numbers from Coors Field and they aren't really all that impressive. Look at his stats from Coors Field for his career and compare them with his numbers away from that T-Ball stadium.

His stats are comparable to a lot of guys...but all of those guys played without the benefit of Coors Field.

Good player...but far from a Hall of Famer.

So what are you saying, no Rockie will EVER make the HOF? Gimme a break.

By the way, Walker has seven Gold Gloves, three Silver Slugger awards, one MVP, and five All Star appearances. Was Coors Field also responsible for those gold gloves?

Give me a break...I never said anything about Rockies not making the Hall of Fame. Pull your head out.

When a player lights up Coors Field and had VERY AVERAGE numbers BEFORE and AFTER playing for the Rockies, it is blatantly obvious his numbers are inflated. He would have been a 20-25 HR with 80-95 RBIs a season player without Coors. Is that Hall of Fame material?

Look at his best season in Montreal: .301 23 HRs and 93 RBIs

Wow...but at least he's Canadian so let him in.

FWIW, I agreed with you in an above post -- he isn't HOF material yet. And I also don't give a rip that he's Canadian as far as his HOF potential goes. But regarding his Montreal year as an example, wouldn't you want a guy who can hit .301 with power (23 hrs and 93 rbis), who can steal 20-30 bases and be a gold glover on D?
